Origin

Born in a classroom. Built for the world

What began as a Final Year Project has since evolved into a promising EdTech startup making waves beyond Singapore. EasyConvo, an AI-driven conversational learning platform, is a testament to how the College of Design and Engineering at NUS nurtures innovation from idea to impact.

EasyConvo first took shape within CDE’s "Ideas to Start-up" Final Year Project programme under the mentorship of Professor Khoo. The team’s early journey was shaped by CDE’s strong emphasis on experiential learning - where ideas are not just explored, but tested and refined in real-world contexts.

The turning point

Innovation Day was the pivot

A pivotal moment came during the CDE Innovation Day Challenge 2024, where EasyConvo emerged as 1st Runner-Up. This recognition not only validated the team’s vision, but also marked the beginning of their transition from an academic project into a viable startup.

CDE’s ecosystem continued to play a critical role beyond the classroom. Following graduation, the team was supported by NUS Block71 and the EDIC Entrepreneur Fellowship, where they received sustained mentorship from Professor Khoo and his team. This access to guidance, combined with exposure to a vibrant entrepreneurial network, enabled the founders to sharpen their business model and accelerate product development.

Momentum

From SGD 10K grant to live customers

The momentum from CDE Innovation Day translated directly into tangible growth. The team secured the SGD 10,000 NUS Venture Initiation Programme (VIP) Grant and joined The HANGAR by NUS Enterprise for incubation support.

These resources proved instrumental in building their Proof of Concept, which quickly progressed into pilot programmes with reputable institutions such as the NUS Centre for Language Studies and the NTU Centre for Modern Languages. Their engagement with the academic community also deepened through workshops with educators at the NUS Centre for English Language Communication, further strengthening the platform’s pedagogical foundation.

Through platforms such as SWITCH 2025, IDP Experience Day, Lorong AI, and the Singapore AI Showcase, EasyConvo gained valuable exposure within the EdTech and AI communities - opening doors to collaborations, feedback, and new market opportunities.

Today

Live product. Paying customers. Regional reach

EasyConvo has grown far beyond its origins as a student project. It is now a live product with a growing base of paying customers, recently achieving a key milestone by expanding into the regional market through a Vietnamese tuition centre.

Looking ahead, the team is focused on scaling its reach across schools and language centres in Singapore and the wider region. Plans are also underway to publish a research paper highlighting the platform’s pedagogically grounded design, reinforcing its credibility in the EdTech space.

More ambitiously, the team envisions building a broader AI-driven ecosystem for conversational learning - one that empowers educators to deliver impactful lessons while providing students with a safe, judgement-free space to practise and improve.

Founders

Guhanavel & Kedrian Loh

Guhanavel and Kedrian Loh, co-founders of EasyConvo and members of the NUS Class of 2025, combine backgrounds in Data Science & Analytics and Computer Engineering, alongside a shared second major in Innovation & Design (IDP).

Both were natural builders from the start - Guhanavel created stock analytics dashboards and FPL trackers, while Kedrian developed a gym fitness app. Their paths converged in IDP modules, where they teamed up on a project called “Chingu.” What began as a strong working partnership soon grew into a close friendship, bonded by shared interests like gym, pool, and bowling.

The idea for EasyConvo took shape during their NUS Overseas Colleges stints - Guhanavel in Munich and Kedrian in Stockholm - where they experienced firsthand the challenges of language immersion. Determined to solve this, they turned to AI. Their vision quickly gained traction, winning first place at Educatehacks 2024 and earning recognition from the Technical University of Munich, where their work was featured in its official newsletter.
